Are you tired of dedicating a computer to a Satellite Feed or don't want the hassle? Pennsylvania Online offers privately arranged FTP feeds of everything available from FidoNet node 1:270/101. That node is one of the 3 primary North American EchoMail and File Distribution Hubs for FidoNet. There's nothing closer to the source than this! If you have an Internet shell account, SLIP/PPP, or any other direct full or part time Internet connection you should think about FTP as an alternative transport. This is a generic interface. There's no special operating system or software required. You can use whatever FTP client software you're comfortable with using on your Internet connection. The connections are two-way, meaning you deliver your echo and file area requests directly to our Internet FTP Hub right along with your outbound mail and files. Then you pick up all your own mail bundles, files, and TICs from the same hub. Our Internet link to the FTP hub is a T-1 digital connection. The thruput is equivalent to about 50 28.8 modems. We're serious about SERVICE! ---------------------------------------- Information about the FTP Hub service... ---------------------------------------- The Pennsylvania Online FTP hub service is a generic Internet FTP interface for access to North American EchoMail Backbone and File Network distributions. The FTP Hub service is a transport for mail archives, shareware, and other file distributions. Each FTP Hub participant's mail and files are processed individually as a custom managed feed with exactly the EchoMail conferences and File Areas you want. AREAFIX and RAID interfaces are used to add, drop, and list EchoMail and File areas for each participant. This is not a packaged all-or-none bulk distribution medium. All feeds are self-managed and all mail is addressed to the participant's actual FidoNet node number. The only difference between FTP Hub and traditional operation is the transport. Traditional distribution uses telephone lines and a mailer program to select files to send and receive. The FTP Hub service uses Internet FTP and manual or scripted commands (GET/PUT/DELETE) to select files to send and receive. The service does not include local Internnet connections or access. You must provide your own Internet access account. SHELL, SLIP, PPP, and DEDICATED access will all work as long as your software supports FTP operations. The FTP Hub transport uses a digital T-1 Internet link. Your link can be any speed from 9,600 baud on up. It does not require any custom software, dedicated machine, or operating systems. It is a generic transport interface using Internet FTP. -------------------------------------------------- Information about signing up for FTP Hub access... -------------------------------------------------- You'll need to pass along several things to set up an FTP Hub account: - A one to 8 character userid (A-Z, 0-9) that will be used for FTP login as well as your root directory name. (lower case) - A one to 8 character security password that will be used for your FTP login. (lower case) - An AREAFIX and TICK/RAID password. They can all be the same and even the same as your FTP login password if you like. We'll use this password for FidoNet session control in case you ever dial in via FidoNet mailer to pick up your load. - The 3-D FidoNet node address you want the custom feed addressed to. - Payment arrangements must be made in advance. See below for details. ---------------------------------------- Once you've signed up for the service... ---------------------------------------- We'll set up the passwords and your root directory. As soon as you find that you can FTP in with your private userid and password you can start placing (PUT/MPUT) FidoNet mail (compressed or uncompressed) in the INCOMING subdirectory off your root and picking up (GET) and DELETEing whatever you find in your private root directory. You can deliver into the INCOMING directory all mail and files you would ordinarily send via a FidoNet mailer. This includes EchoMail and NetMail (local and non-commercial routed) as well as TIC files and distributions. Our FidoNet address is 1:270/101 for all your control files, mail/file processing and AREAFIX/RAID requests. The Internet domain name for our FTP server is << ftp.paonline.com >>. Your sessions must be with this address (not with paonline.com). The mail process transfers outbound mail archives and file attachments from the regular outbound to your private directory every 2 hours at 0000, 0200, 0400, etc (GMT -0500 == EST) and extracts INCOMING mail continuously. Whenever you are connected you should PUT .BSY into the INCOMING directory to indicate you are connected. When the session is complete DELETE the file. All processing is suspended while the .BSY file exists. If you choose to suspend pickup and POLL for your mail via regular phone links you can leave the .BSY file in the INCOMING directory and your mail will be held for FidoNet pickup over our dial-up lines. When you DELETE the BSY file your queued FidoNet mail will be copied for pickup at the next processing cycle. Payment for access is monthly in advance by VISA or MASTERCARD or check. US$30 per full calender month. US$1 per day for partial months. We will *not* automatically charge your card without your explicit permission. All charges will be processed by M O Enterprises of Harrisburg PA USA. 6% Pennsylvania Sales Tax will be added to all USA orders. Payment must be received or arranged by the 5th of every month or FTP Hub access will end. ------------------ Usenet Newsgroups! ------------------ Usenet newsgroups are available via the FTP Hub as ZIPped .BAG files ready for processing on your site.
