There are several printing solutions available for IRIX (third-party
  excerpts taken from "http://www.sgi.com/Products/appsdirectory.dir"):

    1. Standard IRIX print spooler

Adequate for many PostScript printers, handles printing of text,
       PostScript, and IRIS RGB images.

    2. IRIS Impressario; http://www.sgi.com/Technology/Impressario

Provides support for several printers, handles printing of text,
PostScript, TIFF, JPEG, IRIS RGB, PhotoCD, and GIF files. Includes a
PostScript RIP (extra cost) to print to non- PostScript printers like
the HP LaserJet, DeskJet, and DesignJet printers.

    3. ESP Print (Easy Software Products); http://www.easysw.com/print.html

ESP Print is a collection of over 800 printer drivers for the IRIX and
Solaris operating systems. ESP Print provides transparent printing of
text, PostScript, HPGL, GIF, TIFF, JPEG/JFIF, IRIS RGB, Sun Raster, PNG,
and PhotoCD files to any supported printer. ESP Print supports printers
connected directly via serial, parallel, SCSI, and network printers as
well as printers connected to MS Windows and Macintosh computers. ESP
Print uses the standard print spooler and is compatible with all IRIX
       and Solaris applications.

    4. FleXprint(tm) (Augrin Software ApS); http://www.augrin.dk

FleXprint software offers easy printing in the UNIX environment with
efficient use of PostScript level II printers connected to workstations
or in network environments. The Motif based GUI is adaptive to the
printer, reflecting the capabilities and choices for that printer. The
interface gives full control of options for printer, page layout, image
appearance and file compression to the user. Full functionality is also
available through a command line interface for smooth system
integration. FleXprint provides better quality and more speed than any
alternative. Unique screen-to-printer color mapping with EasyColor
secures matched and consistent color output.

    5. FullPress(tm) (Xinet); http://www.xinet.com

FullPress is a fully integrated OPI server that comes with a complete
set of network applications for high-performance file sharing, print

to stay in their familiar Mac environment. It works with all major
layout programs and supports all major image formats, including
Crosfield Studio 9000. FullPress reduces network traffic in any prepress
environement where large image files are being shared over a UNIX/Mac
network. This advanced Xinet software runs on IRIX 5.x and 6.x, and Sun
       SPARC stations.
