Welcome to Cornerstone's ImageAccel family of high resolution 
Display Controllers which will transform your computer into a 
high-performance document imaging workstation. 
 
ImageAccel offers up to 4 times performance improvement over 
ImageAccel, plus superior image decompression and display 
performance for document images and ImageAccel Scale-To-Gray. 
 
This ImageAccel release includes full PCI and ISA support for 
Color and Grayscale displays. 

This release includes the following updates/new features:

This release contains three video drivers.  A Standard 256 Color (8-
bit) Native Windows95 mini-driver, and both a Standard 256 Color 
(8-bit) Clearcolor (24 bit) native Windows 3.1 drivers.  When running
setup, our software automatically determines which operating system 
you're running on, and  installs the appropriate driver for you.   
 
Windows 95 control panel provides the option to force load PCI memory  
into a high address.  The default will be to load high. (NOTE:  This  
feature is designed for some computers that will not automatically 
configure multi-function display adapters.  Users should only attempt 
this setting after contacting Cornerstone Customer Service for  
instructions). 
 
Windows 95 users can revert to VGA through the display properties  
"settings" tab. You can change your desktop resolution to 640x480x16  
colors, which loads the Windows 95 stock VGA driver.

Section 1 - PCI/ISA Configuration and Hardware Installation Procedure 
 
Please read this document before you attempt to install and configure 
ImageAccel. Please refer to Section 9 - PCI troubleshooting if 
your ImageAccel system does not boot (or your display is black) 
after following the steps below. 
 
This section provides details about computers that may need a BIOS 
upgrade to support ImageAccel.  If your computer fails to boot 
ImageAccel or run Windows properly, there are three probable 
causes; incorrect configuration settings, incompatible system BIOS, 
or early PCI BIOS or chipsets. 
 
While many systems with Award BIOS v4.50G fail, we have found that 
some systems with this BIOS do not fail.
 
Please contact the dealer/distributor where you purchased your system 
to get an upgrade from AWARD that supports Multi-function display 
controller PCI devices.  You may also contact Cornerstone Customer 
Support at the numbers listed at the end of this file for the latest 
AWARD BIOS information. 
 
Phoenix BIOS 4.04 or later is considered the current revision that
supports PCI 2.0 specification devices like ImageAccel.  However, 
we have seen some 4.03 implementations that do work with the latest 
ImageAccel BIOS (contact Cornerstone Customer Support).  If you 
have Phoenix 4.03 BIOS and want to upgrade, call the computer 
manufacturer directly. 
 
American Megatrends (AMI) BIOS of various versions have successfully 
configured ImageAccel, commonly AMI 1.00.xx-XXX BIOS's have been 
verified to properly configure and boot ImageAccel. 
 
Hewlett-Packard (HP) Vectra Series 3 (VL3, VL4, XM, XU, XP) 
------------------------------------------------------ 
We have solved all known PCI compatibility problems for these 
computers with an ImageAccel BIOS for PCI controllers - BIOS -011-00
or later.  Please contact Cornerstone Customer Service for
information on upgrading your PCI controller in the field. You must
use BIOS update GT 0710 or later for HPVL4 and GK 0508 or later
HP BIOS for other models from Hewlett-Packard (HP). 
 
 
Dell Optiplex and Ominplex family systems 
----------------------------------------- 
We have solved all known PCI compatibility problems for these 
computers with an ImageAccel BIOS for PCI controllers - BIOS -011-00
or later.  Please contact Cornerstone Customer Service for
information on upgrading your PCI controller in the field.
 
COMPAQ EISA/PCI Machines (DeskPro XL and Prosignia family) 
---------------------------------------------------------- 
COMPAQ machines with a configuration utility earlier than version 
2.28 incorrectly identify the ImageAccel PCI card as an EISA 
device, and they prompt users for an EISA configuration file during 
the boot process.  You may see the following messages when this 
happens; 
 
        175-PCI Configuration/Slot mismatch 
            Device found 
            Run system configuration utility 
            (RESUME = "F1" KEY) 
 
Press the F1 key to continue. Next, the following message appears; 
 
        (RUN SYSTEM CONFIGURATION UTILITY = "F10" KEY) 
 
At this point DO NOT press the F10 key.  Running system configuration 
will result in no video after rebooting.  Instead, press the ESC key, 
and the Compaq will bypass the Configuration program and continue 
to boot normally. You should follow this process and ignore this 
message for any re-boot. 
 
You may contact Compaq Customer Service to get a copy of the Compaq 
2.28 or later configuration program. 
 
CAUTION: Do not try to configure the ImageAccel PCI display adapter 
as an EISA device. 
 
Compaq Prolinea and Deskpro family must use 10.05b or later from
Compaq Corp. 
 
 
DOS/Windows 3.11 Memory Managers 
QEMM, EMM386.EXE, 386MAX and DOS 6.xx MEMMAKER 
---------------------------------------------- 
QEMM, 386max, and MEMMAKER will hang the system if they attempt to 
load PCICONF.SYS into high memory.  See PCICONF.SYS section below for 
important information relating to this problem. 
 
If you're using EMM386.EXE, or 386MAX make sure it's fully installed 
and configured before installing ImageAccel.  If you're going to 
run a program like DOS 6.x's MEMMAKER, or 386Max's Maximize, after 
you've installed ImageAccel, comment out (use the DOS REM command) 
the PCICONF.SYS entry in your CONFIG.SYS first.   If you don't, the 
optimization program will hang in PCICONF.SYS.  If this occurs, hit 
F5 to escape from CONFIG.SYS, or re-boot from a bootable floppy disk 
and REM out PCICONF.SYS. 
 
CAUTION: Do not load PCICONF.SYS in high memory. 
 
When you have completed optimizing your system, reactivate the 
PCICONF.SYS line by removing the 'REM' in CONFIG.SYS, and re-boot 
the system before you run Windows. 
 
QEMM 
---- 
We tested ImageAccel with QEMM 7.0 and 7.5.  If you are using later 
versions of QEMM, and are having technical difficulties, please 
contact Cornerstone Customer Support (see below). 
 
Recommended configuration steps; 
 
1. Run QEMM Optimize. 
 
2. Install the Cornerstone ImageAccel display drivers.  Refer to 
the ImageAccel Users Guide or Section 2, below. 
 
3. When the ImageAccel Setup asks if you want to reboot, click on 
NO. 
 
4. Remark out the following line in the CONFIG.SYS: 
         REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\PCICONF.SYS 
	 
5. Exclude 8k space for the ImageAccel BIOS memory address.  Edit 
the QEMM386.SYS line to read as follows: 
 
  DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS EXCLUDE=(xxxx-nnnn) 
 
  (XXXX is the starting memory area to exclude, nnnn is the ending 
  memory. For example: C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS EXCLUDE=C800-C9FF) 
 
  Note: Replace the memory address referenced above with any 8k 
  contiguous block of memory that does not conflict with any 
  hardware devices. 
	 
6. Reboot the PC. 
 
7. Rerun QEMM Optimize. 
	 
8. When QEMM Optimize is complete, reboot and pay attention to the 
   programs loading in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to make sure 
   there are no errors. Press CTRL-S to stop the scrolling and ENTER 
   to continue scrolling. 
	 
9. Insert the PCICONF.SYS line after the QEMM386.SYS line and 
   manually configure the ImageAccel BIOS memory address to reflect 
   the excluded memory area in the QEMM386.SYS. The following is an 
   example of CONFIG.SYS. 
	 
 DEVICE=C:\QEMM\DOSDATA.SYS

PCI Local Bus and Plug-and-Play Auto Configuration 
-------------------------------------------------- 
The PCI local bus automatically configures installed PCI peripherals 
when you power-up your computer.  In certain PCI computers, you may 
have to modify your BIOS by running the CMOS Setup program to enable 
PCI slots, disable on-board peripherals, or disable shadowing. 
ImageAccel memory and I/O addresses are automatically configured, 
and no IRQ is used. 
 
ImageAccel is a Multi-function PCI controller (non-Master).  In a 
single controller, it provides two functions: both VGA (function 0) 
and ImageAccel (function 1) for high-resolution document imaging 
and Windows acceleration. ImageAccel uses a separate configuration 
space for each function. 
 
Some compatibility issues may affect installation of other PCI 
peripherals in your computer. If you have problems, you should 
contact your computer's manufacturer to determine if your BIOS 
correctly supports PCI Local-Bus Specification (v2.0), specifically 
for PCI multi-function graphics controllers. 
 
Many early PCI BIOS (especially Clones) versions do not support the 
PCI specification completely. If you have an early PCI BIOS version, 
your computer may hang when any driver attempts to load. This problem 
may usually be solved with a BIOS upgrade from your computer mother-
board manufacturer that support multi-function graphics controllers. 

In Windows 95 the Device Manager, Display Adapters shows ImageAccel 
twice as a result of Windows 95's inability to cope with ImageAccel 
as a multi-function device.  Windows '95 puts in the Registry a
separate entry for every function of a PCI device.  Since IA2 has
two functions, it puts two entries.
 
PCICONF.SYS 
----------- 
PCICONF is a DOS TSR program for configuring and troubleshooting PC 
problems with the computer's configuration.  The Windows 3.1 
ImageAccel Driver Setup for Grayscale displays automatically inserts 
PCICONF.SYS into the first line of CONFIG.SYS. It manages and reports 
the configuration status for BOTH the PCI and ISA ImageAccel display 
controllers. 

 
If you are upgrading your driver - installing this release from a 
native  Windows 3.1 driver for use with color displays, like 2,00, 
2.01 or 2.02, you may opt to keep the PCICONF.SYS if you plan to 
use it for manual configuration or troubleshooting.  Or, you may 
remove the DEVICE= line from the CONFIG.SYS in order to save some 
conventional memory.  The following information is provided for those 
who opt to continue to use PCICONF.SYS. 
 
Either your computer's Power On Self Test (POST), or PCICONF.SYS will 
automatically assign two spaces somewhere in the upper memory block 
for its VGA BIOS (function 0) and ImageAccel (function 1). 
 
Problems may exist if EMM386 is running, and POST assigns ImageAccel 
in that same range (see above). If there is a conflict, remove 
EMM386 and reboot. The range when ImageAccel is configured is 
displayed when PCICONF.SYS runs in CONFIG.SYS. A message after you 
boot DOS appears, like this;

You may also view the configuration information for ImageAccel by 
clicking on the 'Info' button in the ImageAccel Control Panel after 
the ImageAccel Windows display drivers are installed. Compaq
Deskpro XL systems (BUG1446) and the Dell Optiplex XM 590 (BUG1399)
require PCICONF.SYS to be loaded in order to work correctly with the 
ImageAccel adapter.
 
SHADOW Video Adapter ROM's 
-------------------------- 
On some computers, shadowing adapter ROM's may cause problems at boot 
time before DOS is loaded.  The way to correct this is to disable 
adapter ROM shadowing in your system's CMOS Setup or configuration 
program BEFORE you have ImageAccel installed. 
 
NOTE: Some motherboard BIOS's may try to shadow the ImageAccel 
Pixel Data Address Space (PDAS) registers.  If this occurs, then the 
video adapter will not boot.  ImageAccel BIOS may be shadowed, as 
long as PDAS is not. 
 
ImageAccel BIOS BEEP CODES and WARNING MESSAGES 
------------------------------------------------- 
ImageAccel can issue three different beep codes during POST 
before DOS boots up. 
 
1 long, 1 short beep - ImageAccel chip is busy. The system will 
not boot. 
 
1 long, 2 short beeps - POST could not find ImageAccel VGA.  The 
system will not boot if this happens. 
 
4 beeps - No EEPROM Found. EEPROM is not seated properly or not 
programmed. The system will not boot. 
 
ImageAccel SWITCH SETTINGS 
---------------------------- 
Switches 1-4 are used for selecting displays - they should be set to 
match the display you're using.  Switches 5, 7 and 8 have no 
function. Switch 6 enables the on-board ImageAccel VGA chip when 
it is ON, and disables it when off. 
 
'ON' for these switches is when the switch is near the circuit board, 
while 'OFF' is away from the boards. 
 
These switches are read ONLY once when the computer is powered up. 
If you change the switch settings, completely power down the 
computer. Pressing <CTRL> + <ALT> + <DELETE>, or pushing the reset 
button on your computer may not completely reset the ImageAccel 
display controller. 

For ISA cards with rev.14 or later video BIOS and PCI cards with
rev. 13 or later video BIOS you should set the following switch
settings on these cards for the display indicated. If they have
not already been set. If you do not have one of these new video
BIOSs, contact Cornerstone Technical support to obtain it.

You can inspect the card's bracket for the white
label containing the hardware number (example
7113745-00X) to determine the displays your card

For Autosync, your display must be able to 
support a horizontal scanning frequency of 30-31 KHz VGA. 
 
Switch 6 (VGA) Default setting is:      ON (VGA Enabled - 31Khz) 
 
 
Hardware Installation Procedure 
------------------------------- 
1. Turn OFF and disconnect the computer from the power source. 
 
2. Remove the cover from your computer. 
 
3. Verify the switch settings for your display type. 
 
4. Install the display controller in a slot. 
 
5. Using the display cable supplied with your system, connect the 
single cable connector to ImageAccel connector on the installed 
display controller. 
 
6. Replace the cover on your computer 
 
7. Connect the power to the display and the computer and power 
both units ON. 
 
Your computer should boot, and you should first see a flashing 
cursor in the top left corner of the display, followed by the 
normal boot messages. 
			 
CTICONF for Windows 3.1 
----------------------- 
Unless you are using Windows 95 CTICONF, CTITSR, CTIDRVR are 
automatically installed for Grayscale displays. They normalize
the DOS palette with these displays.

Section 2 - Installing the Windows 3.1 Display Driver & Windows 95 
 
Use the following steps to install the ImageAccel Display Driver for 
Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups (3.11), and Windows 95. 
 
Windows 95 Notes: This driver supports the native Windows 95 
installation through the Display Properties Settings change display 
type option.  
 
In addition, we have provided a setup wizard program for both Windows  
3.1 and Windows 95 that we recommend. The program automatically
detects your environment, and installs the correct driver. The
ImageAccel setup wizard program on Display Setup Disk 1 includes extra
features that the Windows 95 Display Properties Settings program does
not provide. 
 
Windows 95 Installation Note: If you're upgrading from a previous  
ImageAccel Display Driver, you should use the setup wizard program
we provide on the Display Setup disk 1 of that version and delete
all previous ImageAccel files.  If you do not use the setup wizard
your system will have two ImageAccel icons, a version 2.0x icon and
a 2.10 icon. The 2.02 icon can be eliminated from the
system through deleting it from the RUN= line in the WIN.INI file.
 
Windows 95 program limitations:  Some Windows 95 programs, like the 
Windows 95 10 minute tutorial, will not run if the font size is large
(greater than 96 DPI).  For document imaging, ImageAccel is preset to 
120 DPI.  If you want to run Windows 95 applications that require 
small fonts (96 DPI), use the display properties "Settings" page to 
change this setting. 
 
ImageAccel Setup and Upgrade Instructions for Windows 95 
---------------------------------------------------------- 
 
1. Select "Display Property->Settings->Change Display Type" to  
change both the "Adapter Type" and the "Monitor type" to Standard 
VGA. Reboot the system. 
 
2. Ensure that the system works correctly in VGA mode. You may verify  
this by going to "Display Property->Settings."  

3. If you are upgrading from an earlier ImageAccel software release,
run the "Delete" routine using that versions setup disk 1 by typing
"a:\setup", to run the setup wizard; you have four choices: Install,
Delete, Readme and Exit.
 
4. Once you have deleted the previous version of the driver, run
"Setup" from the new installation disk 1 and select "Install" to
install the Imageaccel driver. You will be asked to select both 
"Adapter Type" and "Monitor Type". 

Note: If you have not already changed your system's "Adapter Type" 
and "Monitor type" to Standard VGA, you can select them now. 
However, you will have to reboot the system in VGA and repeat step 
four to install the ImageAccel adapter and monitor types. 
 
5. Follow the rest of the setup wizard to finish installing and 
reboot the system. 
 
 
ImageAccel Setup Instructions for Windows 3.1 
----------------------------------------------- 
1. Start Microsoft Windows 3.1 in VGA mode (640 x 480 x 16 Colors) 
This can be done by changing to the Windows directory (ie. C:\Win)
typing "Setup."  Use the arrow keys to move up to the Display
settings.  Press "Enter" to change and select the Standard VGA
driver.  Press "Enter" again to confirm your selections and return
to the DOS prompt.  Type "Win" to restart Windows. 
 
2. Insert the Display Setup,  Disk 1 in the appropriate diskette 
drive. 
 
3.  From the File menu of the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, choose  
Run. 
 
4. Type A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on the diskette drive, and 
press the Enter key. 
 
5. Select the type of installation you want from the ImageAccel  
Setup menu. 
 
 
o  Although the DELETE button is not grayed out while running in 
    high resolution, do NOT delete unless you have reverted to VGA. 
 

6. Select your display from the list shown and choose Continue. 
When prompted, put the Driver, Disk 2 in the appropriate drive. 
 
NOTE:  Selecting an inappropriate display type may cause a garbled 
or distorted screen, or it may refresh the screen properly, but at 
a lower refresh rate. If this occurs, run Windows SETUP from DOS in 
your Windows directory, and select the standard VGA display driver. 
Begin again with step 1, above. 
 
7. To change the ImageAccel Control Panel default options, double 
click on the ImageAccel icon within the Windows Control Panel.
Select the desired options and select OK.  Some changes to the 
Control Panel default settings require you to restart Windows 
before the changes take effect. See the User's Guide section titled 
"Using the ImageAccel Control Panel" for information about each of 
the options. 
  
 
NOTE: 
If you have any difficulty installing the Windows VGA display driver, 
run the Windows Setup again from DOS and choose the VGA display 
driver.  If you have the same or similar problems installing Windows 
for VGA, contact Microsoft for VGA installation support.

Section 4 - ImageAccel Standard 256-Color and ClearColor(TM)
            Display Drivers for Windows 3.1 
 
NOTE: The ClearColor driver is not available for Windows 95. 
 
You may change the color depth by clicking on one of the two color 
depth options in the ImageAccel Control Panel; 
 
     o Standard 256 color display driver 
     o ClearColor display driver 
 
Selecting the Standard 256 color driver (default) option gives you 
a maximum of 256 colors at high-resolution, like a standard 256 
color VGA display driver.  This is the ImageAccel high- 
performance display driver. 
 
Selecting the ClearColor driver allows you to display true color 
images with 16.8 million colors (24 bpp) using ImageAccel's 
ClearColor technology.  ClearColor provides near true color 
quality at high-resolution by using color blending techniques. 
 
Using the ClearColor driver is a trade-off of color depth for speed. 
If you need the best windows performance, use the Standard 256 color 
driver.  If you need to display higher quality color images, use the 
ClearColor driver. However, the instant gray hot key (CTRL F9) is 
not supported in the ClearColor driver. 

Changing either of these options will prompt you to Restart Windows 
before the change will take affect. 
 
CAUTION:  With ANY 24-bit driver, the system must transfer up to FOUR 
TIMES the amount of information across the bus compared with a 
Standard, 8-bit driver. 
 
The ImageAccel ClearColor driver is no exception.  What this means 
to you is that while your system may run normally with our Standard 
driver, if you are low on resources, when you switch to the ClearColor 
driver, insufficient resources will cause the following to occur; 
 
   o icons may appear black on the desktop or not at all 
   o you may get the Windows 'System low on Resources' message 
   o If you have more than (roughly) 42 icons in a group, or if you 
     have MANY groups, icons may appear black 
   o If you're VERY low on system resources (3% or less), then 
     Windows objects will paint VERY SLOWLY, or not at all. 
 
There are a number of ways to cure this type of problem; 
   o Use the Program Manager, Help Menu, About menu choices to 
     determine Free System Resources when the ClearColor driver 
     is running. 
   o Add more system memory (RAM).  What works in Standard (8-bit) 
     mode may require additional memory to work properly in

Section 7 - Tips and Techniques
 
   *	IA2 VOG3 - Win95 - Toolbar icons in Adobe Acrobat and Wang
	software notdisplayed correctly.  Contact Cornerstone Technical
	Support for updated information regarding this issue.

   *	No ImageAccel 2 Zoom Functionality In Windows 95 When
	Intellipoint Mouse Driver Is Loaded.  If you press Cntrl +
	Alt + Delete to bring up the Close Program Window & perform an
	End Task on Point32, zoom functionality is returned.

   *	VOG3 (Grayscale) - Display Loses Sync When Reverting Back to
	VGA from Hi-Res.  A workaround for this problem is described
	below:
	1. Goto Display Properties and configure for VGA
	2. Select <No> when prompted to restart computer
	* if the user selects <Yes>, Win 95 is restarted instead of
	the computer
	3. Manually restart the computer from the Shutdown menu
	4. Reboot to Win 95 in VGA - the display should be okay

   *	When using Windows in a Shared environment the "Delete" and
	"Revert to VGA" buttons in the Setup panel will not perform
	these functions.  These selections were not intended for use
	from this environment.
	

   *	Acer Open (Model#Ap53-3) Mb Fails Boot Sequence With IA-2
	Present.  Please contact Cornerstone Technical Support for
	support if you are using an ISA controller card.  For PCI card
	users, a workaround is included here.
	PCI Workaround:
	1) Enter CMOS Setup
	2) From "Setup" window, select "PCI/PnP"
	3) Scroll down to bottom of "PCI/PnP Setup" window
	4) Highlight "Reserved Memory Space for ISA" and select "64K"
	5) Highlight "Reserved Memory Base for ISA" and select "D0000"
	6) Save new settings and restart computer

   *	Win95 - Warm Boot and Restarts Fail Intermittently On DEC
	Celebris XL 6150.  A workaround for this problem is to select
	"Load High" from the ImageAccel Control Panel.

   *	PCICONF.SYS Is Required On A Dell Optiplex XM 590

ImageAccel ISA Controllers Stray Screen Pixels 
--------------------------------------------------------- 
On some slower ISA machines, you may see stray pixels appear, 
especially when zoomed in, or using an application that repaints very 
quickly (like the Windows game Solitaire).  We have fixed this problem 
with a minor revision to the ImageAccel ISA controllers, which is 
shipping in production now. 
 
If your controller is showing this problem, please contact Cornerstone 
Customer support to obtain a replacement controller, ISA1604G/21 Lot C 
or ISA1608C/2x Lot D. 
 
PCI BIOS's 
---------- 
Some BIOS's fail to automatically configure ImageAccel because it 
is a PCI multi-function graphics controller and BIOS does not 
support this. See Sections 1 and 5 for more information. 
 
PCI BRIDGE SETS 
--------------- 
Certain recent PCI bridge sets cause missed or erroneous character 
information (garbage) to appear when ImageAccel is running in VGA 
mode. (For example, at the DOS prompt after booting). This is found 
on most systems that have more than 3 PCI slots. 
 
You may remedy this by disabling PCI bursting in CMOS setup, if that 
feature is provided by the motherboard manufacturer.  Sometimes, 
using a different (non master) PCI slot will cure this problem. 
			 
50MHz and 75MHz CPU PCI Machines 
-------------------------------- 
The following paragraph applies only for ImageAccel display 
controllers made before June 1, 1995. Users attempting to install 
the PCI1604G/21 controller into systems with 50MHz or 75 MHz CPU's 
may encounter a distorted image at boot up. All systems that have 
a 25MHz bus speed will exhibit this problem.   We have identified 
that 50MHz and 75MHz systems have a 25MHz bus speed, some systems 
may vary depending on the manufacture's specifications. 
 
The symptom is a jittery image.  Additionally, in Windows, with a 
dark background you may notice streaks across the display and some 
screen garbage on the lower right corner of the display. 
 
To install the ImageAccel display driver on a 50MHz or 75 MHz PCI 
system, you'll want to field upgrade to the ImageAccel BIOS Rev 
011, or later. Contact Cornerstone Customer Service for information 
on obtaining a copy of the BIOS upgrade.  All ImageAccel production 
shipping includes this upgrade now. 
 
If you have difficulty with these instructions, please contact 
Cornerstone Customer Support by following the directions in Appendix 
A of the ImageAccel User's Guide. 
 
To receive an updated display controller that does not exhibit the 
distortion, please contact Cornerstone Customer Support. 

If you have an early DP150 that does not support the Energy Star 
PowerSave feature you should disable the ImageAccel Power Management
dialog checkboxes.  These checkboxes are enabled by default and once
enabled will turn your screen white. You can disable this feature
through clicking on the ImageAccel display icon, moving to the 
ImageAccel tab and selecting the PowerSave button. Removing the checks
from the checkboxes and selecting "OK" will disable the feature.

Loading Windows 95 MS Paint may steal bitmap colors from some 256 
color wallpapers. This is an architectural limitation of the Scale
to Gray Mode.  To prevent this from happening, using the ImageAccel
Control Panel, switch to the Compatible Palette mode.

Section  8 - PCI Troubleshooting Steps 
 
If there is no visible display output, or the display is black; 
 
- Check the Contrast and Brightness display controls 
 
-Add PCICONF.SYS to the first line in your CONFIG.SYS.  If you 
have not run Windows setup for ImageAccel, you may have to 
manually install PCICONF.SYS, and ImageAccel into your system. 
 
To manually configure ImageAccel; 
 
   1. Prepare a bootable floppy diskette. 
   2. Copy PCICONF.SYS to the boot disk from Display Setup, Disk 1 
   3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the bootable floppy.  Edit the 
   first line to read; 
 
	DEVICE=A:\PCICONF.SYS 
 
   4. Reboot from the floppy.  ImageAccel should now be configured. 
   Copy the PCICONF.SYS to the C:\WINDOWS\ directory, and edit the 
   CONFIG.SYS file on your hard drive.  Edit the first line to read; 
 
	DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\PCICONF.SYS 
 
   5. Remove the boot floppy and reboot. 
 
-Reboot machine with system on floppy diskette and REM EMM386.EXE out 
of CONFIG.SYS on Fixed boot drive. 
 
-Check the system BIOS.  If it is AWARD, contact your dealer for a 
BIOS upgrade that recognizes PCI multi-function controllers. If it 
is not AWARD, and all other troubleshooting steps fail, determine 
what the BIOS is and call Cornerstone Customer Support for status 
on that BIOS. 
 
-Check the system's CMOS settings - make sure the PCI slot that 
you're using is enabled, if there is an option for that. 
 
-Check the system's CMOS settings - disable Video Shadowing if 
possible. Also disable on-board video if there is an option for that. 
 
-Try a different PCI slot. 
 
-Remove or disable all other peripherals installed on the system 
 
-Be sure that no other device is occupying the two memory addresses 
that ImageAccel uses (128K VGA space, plus the 8K ImageAccel 
space).  You may run a program like MSD to check this.  It's possible 
that you will need another Video controller installed and running 
with ImageAccel installed at the same time to do this step. 
 
-On some early machines, we have found that ENABLING Shadow ROM may 
cause the system to boot normally.  Try this only as a last resort, 
as ImageAccel does not always work with Shadowing enabled, 
depending on the manufacturer's implementation. 
 
o DOS boots, but Windows does not boot 
 
-Check that PCICONF.SYS is the first line in your CONFIG.SYS. 
 
 
o Manual ImageAccel Configuration 
 
ImageAccel is a multi-function device; it has a separate VGA chip 
and an ImageAccel chip for document imaging.  Each device (or 
function) requires a separate memory space below 1MB for DOS and 
Windows to work correctly.  The PCICONF.SYS TSR program provides 
three methods for configuration; Configure by System, Configure 
Automatically, and Command line option. 
 
If the Plug and Play BIOS in your system properly recognizes and 
initializes both ImageAccel functions, then PCICONF will report 
that ImageAccel was 'Configured by System' when PCICONF is executed. 
 
If the Plug and Play BIOS in your computer does not recognize one or 
both of the ImageAccel functions, then PCICONF.SYS takes over, and 
tries to find a 'free' memory location for the two functions below 
1MB, and initialize ImageAccel in those 'free' locations. 
 
In some machines (especially early PCI implementations), where both 
the methods above fail, Cornerstone has provided a third method for 
initialization - the Command Line option.  If you fail to see 
ANYTHING on the display when booting, and you've tried all the other 
troubleshooting steps above, you may try the following PCICONF.SYS 
Command Line options. 
 
NOTE: If ImageAccel is not initialized on boot, you will have to 
edit the CONFIG.SYS file to perform these Command Line options. 
Therefore, you will need another video card that DOES boot so you 
can see the screen display and make these changes.  Once you have 
edited your CONFIG.SYS, you'll need to power down, remove the 
second video card, replace the ImageAccel card, and then reboot. 
If the PCICONF Command Line entry you made still does not configure 
and boot ImageAccel, you'll have to switch back to the other video 
card to make another attempt, then repeat the process again. 
 
To make this process easier, you may press F8 key to step through 
each line of CONFIG.SYS when the message 'Starting MS-DOS...' 
appears at the top of the display.  The non-ImageAccel card is 
installed, you'll want to BYPASS the PCICONF.SYS line (by pressing 
F8), or your system may hang.

PCICONF.SYS Command Line Options; 
--------------------------------- 
Booting up to a different video adapter, edit the first line of 
CONFIG.SYS as shown below;

You may need to try several memory locations.  You will have to 
switch video cards and reboot between each attempt. Here are some 
valid IO and MEMORY locations to try (these two settings are 
independent of one another);

NOTE:  It may be useful to run Microsoft Diagnostics (MSD) before 
you try different Memory locations.  Try to determine what memory 
locations are already used by the system by running MSD.
