XRoadMaker (short) history
==========================

XRoadMaker was started in march 1999 as a student project
for the 'License' degree in electronics at the
Nice-Sophia Antipolis university. The two person involved
at the beginning were Cedric Couette and me (Cedric Hyppolite).
The idea was proposed by Daniel Gaffe, a professor of industrial
computer science. After a lot of work and late night hacking we
built a functional, text mode, router. Therefore we decided to bring
the router into the GUI world. I wrote most of the GUI and the algo
code. However occupied with bugfixing and enhancing the router
(Daniel Gaffe always gave us a 'It would be great if...') we stopped
at the end of the schoolar year with a semi-graphical, semi-working
version. During the summer, Cedric Couette move to Lyon and we didn't
keep in touch for a fairly long time. After my summer job, I tryied to
continue the endeavour to give reality to this software. After many hours
spent in front of my linux box, and a total rewrite of software (both
the router and the graphical interface), I finally build up a working
version with some of the nifty features proposed by Daniel Gaffe
(he proposed the heuristic used for the router). The first world wide
release of XRoadMaker was in march 2000.

And now you know how this wonderful software came to your hand...

Development Platform
