Last Updated - 21 May 2000

The current stable version of suck is - 4.2.4

What is suck?

Suck is a program used to grab news from a remote NNTP news server and bring it to your local machine, without the remote server doing anything special. If you have read permission on the server, you can use suck. Suck does NOT use the NEWNEWS command, hated by many administrators.

There are 4 programs in the suck tar file.

1. suck - the main program, brings the messages to your machine.

2. rpost - sends locally posted messages to the remote server.

3. lmove - put messages into news/group/number format, for use by certain newsreaders.

4. lpost - an alternate way of posting messages to local newsgroups !OUTDATED!

There are also sample scripts and documentation.
